My family and I spent a week vacationing in the northern part of the Outer Banks in Nags Head, North Carolina. Most of us are at least partially plant-based, so whenever traveling together we love to look for the best places in the area for vegan food. These were our favorite places to eat vegan food in the Outer Banks.
Himalaya
Himalaya is an amazing spot for vegan food in the Outer Banks. It’s locally owned, specializes in authentic Indian and Nepali cuisine, and is located in Nags Head just off the North Croatan Highway.
I ordered the Chana Masala which comes with a large side of basmati rice. Everything about this meal was perfect. The chickpeas were cooked perfectly—not too soft or dry—and the rice was fluffy and tender. It was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Also, the portions were so large that my mom and I split one order of the Chana Masala and still had some left for lunch the next day!
This place was so good that all three of us agreed to eat there again the next night (which never happens in my family). This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. I can’t wait to go back the next time we’re in Nags Head.
Donutz On A Stick
Donutz On A Stick is such a fun shop. Located in Duck, North Carolina, they serve donuts on sticks with many toppings and ice cream to choose from. They serve traditional donuts as well as vegan and gluten-free ones.
We ordered six vegan, gluten-free donuts in the flavors of cinnamon roll, tuxedo, and chocolate glaze. My absolute favorite was the cinnamon roll because the frosting was cream cheese flavored. I’m obsessed with cream cheese frosting. The chocolate glaze was also incredible—it was so good I could’ve eaten it by the spoonful.
The owner was so kind and friendly, the donuts were delicious, and we’ll definitely be back the next time we are in the Outer Banks.
