As September nears and August comes to a close, I wanted to write a blog post on my monthly reset routine. I adore rituals and routines—I even have an entire board on Pinterest dedicated to them. They help ground me in the present moment and bring me so much joy.
Here’s what I do every month to refresh and refocus.
set my intentions
At the beginning of every month, I like to set my intentions for the new month. This looks like reflecting on the past month and setting goals for the new month.
I like to reflect on what I enjoyed and what I didn’t enjoy the past month. I’ll also think about what I learned and how I can improve in the coming month. Lastly, I’ll set my goals for the next month and pick something new I want to try.
Here’s a list of the journal prompts I use for my monthly reset routine.
make a bucket list
One of my favorite practices of my monthly reset routine is making a little bucket list for the new month. I like to do this based on the theme or vibes of the month. Pinterest is so helpful in this!
Here’s a blog post of my entire September bucket list!
make a vision board
Now that you’ve set your intentions and made your bucket list, you have an idea of what you want your month to look like. You can make a vision board now! I love to use Pinterest for this. I’ll make a new board and label it as something like “september ’24”.
For my monthly vision boards, I keep them pretty simple and small. I’ll usually only save around 10 photos that capture the main vision I have for the month. My seasonal vision boards are a bit different—I save many more pictures and spend more time visualizing what I want.
clean my space
With a new month, it’s a great time to clean your physical, as well as your digital space.
For my physical space, I like to wash my sheets, vacuum my floor, and wipe down my bathroom. I’ll also clean up any clutter that has accumulated around my room.
And then for my digital space, I’ll go through my notes app, email, and desktop and clean out anything I no longer need.
I also like to update my wallpapers on my phone and laptop to match the visuals of the month. You could even make a collage of your vision board to use as your wallpaper!
organize & redecorate
Once you’ve cleaned up your space, it’s the perfect time to reorganize and redecorate your space.
It can be fun to redecorate with some things that feel like the upcoming month. With September, that could be things like apples and cinnamon-scented candles.
Reorganize things you’ve been meaning to get around to like your desk drawer, closet, and dresser drawers. I also like to reorganize my digital spaces like my Google calendar and phone home page to freshen things up.
have a self-care day
Now is the perfect time to plan that self-care day you’ve been putting off. While I’d love to have a full on self-care spa day every day, I think planning one once a month is totally doable for most people.
Take a minute to plan an hour or so in the next few days to have a spa moment for yourself. You could do things like make a homemade face mask, take a bubble bath, or try a new stretch routine.
Anything that makes you feel well cared for and pampered is perfect. You deserve it!
gratitude practice
During my monthly reset routine, I love to take a moment to reflect on the past month and practice gratitude for everything that happened.
I’ve tried a few different gratitude practices and this one is my absolute favorite. I like to go through my photos from the past month—usually filled with yummy meals and lavender sunsets—and I’ll pick out my favorite moments.
As I do this, I’ll write in my notes app the things I’m grateful for from the past month. Usually, it’s as simple as “I loved that really pretty pink sunset” or “that pineapple smoothie bowl was so good”.
It doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s meant to be fun and get you into that energy of gratitude for even the smallest of things. I love this practice because it reminds me how much I have to be grateful for. It can be easy to forget sometimes.
monthly reset routine
That’s it for my monthly reset routine! I hope you enjoy it and that it helps you to start your month fresh and with a clear mind.
