I love living by the moon. It helps me feel more grounded and connected to nature. I also love a ritual, like this new moon ritual, that helps give structure to time in a fun way.
The new moon is all about new beginnings. It’s like you’re planting your seeds (your goals and wishes) and they grow as the moon grows into a full moon. This time is also about letting go and going within. It’s a quieter, calmer time—compared to during a full moon.
Here’s what I like to do for my new moon ritual:
release + let go
Before you begin the ritual, take some time to calm down with a relaxing bath or shower. Imagine the water washing away your worries. Release and let go, be in the present moment.
create a sacred space
After you’ve relaxed for a bit, create a sacred space to begin your ritual. You can decorate a little space for yourself with candles and crystals. Grab your journal and a mug of tea if you’d like.
Get comfortable. Shut down the big lights, light your candles, and sip your tea.
go within
The new moon is the perfect time to practice shadow work. Once you’ve created your calming sacred space, you can begin to go within.
To begin shadow work, you can use the help of journal prompts. Here are some great ones on Pinterest to get started.
set intentions
New moons represent new beginnings—this means it’s the perfect time to set intentions and manifest new things. Think about what you want to happen as the moon grows into a full moon.
Write down goals for yourself in all areas of your life—work, health, relationships, etc.
Get clear on what you want your life to look like. Now is the time to manifest all your greatest desires!
new moon ritual affirmations
Along with the rest of the ritual, it can be helpful to repeat affirmations to get you into the energy of the full moon.
Here’s a looped affirmations mediation I created just for this:
And here’s a list of the affirmations:
- I embrace new beginnings with open arms
- I easily let go of the past
- I am comfortable with change
- I am always calm and at peace
- no matter what has happened, I can always begin again
- I release what no longer serves me
- I do not live in the past
- every new day is a fresh start
- I know what I want for myself and see my goals clearly
- I easily manifest what I want
- I only manifest good into my life
- I am free of limitations
