my october bucket list (2024)

It’s almost my favorite time of year. Every year, without fail, I’m always excited for the return of crisp air, colorful foliage, and the cinnamon scent of October. To get into the fall mood, I planned out some things I want to do for the month and made an October bucket list.

Here’s what I’m looking forward to doing this October!

hike in the fall foliage

— I’m so excited to try some new hiking trails and see all the beautiful fall foliage.

— Tip: I love using the AllTrails app to find trails near me.

make pumpkin muffins

— I’m not really a pumpkin pie person, but I love pumpkin muffins.

— And I’ll be topping these with cream cheese frosting, of course, because once you have a pumpkin muffin this way you can never go back.

go to the farmer’s market

— It’s so lovely going to the farmer’s market in the fall. You can find little pumpkins, apple cider, and in-season fall produce.

— Also, it’s not quite so hot out which makes it much more enjoyable.

study at the local college library

— I enjoy taking online classes in my free time and it’s so much more fun to study at a library or cafe.

— Also, most college libraries are open to the general public and are typically much larger and quieter than county libraries.

try new cafes

— I love the atmosphere of cafes, and I’m always on the hunt for the perfect one. This fall I’ll definitely be venturing out and trying some new ones in my area.

— Tip: I like to use Happy Cow to help me find places with dairy-free milk and vegan baked goods.

go to a local fall event

— Inspired by Gilmore Girls, I’d love to check out a local fall event.

— I was thinking something along the lines of a fall festival, a hayride, or a pumpkin carving contest would be fun.

read autumn books

— I’m always so excited for fall because it’s the perfect time of year to read anything and everything supernatural, witchy, and dark academia.

— Here are some of my favorite dark academia books, as well as ones on my to-read list.

watch lots of Halloween movies

— So many movie nights are in my future, I can just feel it. I’m so excited to cozy up with some Halloween snacks and watch spooky movies.

— Here’s a list of some classic fall movies I’ll be watching.

watch fall tv shows

— I started watching Gilmore Girls for the first time a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed; I can’t believe it took me so long to start watching it.

— Here are some spooky tv shows and cozier classic fall tv shows I’ll be watching this month.

carve a pumpkin

— This year I really want to push my artistic limits and carve the greatest pumpkin I’ve ever done—and try not to cry in the process.

— I’d also like to keep the pumpkin seeds and roast them. I’ve never done it before, but I think they’d be good (at least that’s what people online say).

make a fall themed craft

— Like look at that leaf jar, are you kidding me? It’s gorgeous. I can already imagine my future home littered with these.

shop at Spirit Halloween

— Even if I don’t get anything, just window shopping there is fun. It’s something to do, gets you in the spirit of Halloween, and it feels so October.

drink warm apple cider

— A classic, and it’s just so cozy and comforting.

— Last fall I bought a tin of apple cider tea from my local produce box and it was so good. I loved that it was an easy way to make a drink similar to homemade apple cider without all the work.

eat candy corn

— Candy corn’s on my October bucket list, because, well, of course it is. When else will I get to eat candy corn?

— Truthfully, I don’t even like it that much (remember the “I really love Halloween, but I don’t like candy corn” song from that Moose cartoon?), but I feel like it’s not really fall if I don’t have at least one morsel of candy corn.

decorate

— Last but not least, I’m excited to decorate for October. I want lots of pumpkin pillows, ghost candles, and orange fairy lights everywhere.

I hope this list inspired you and gave you some ideas for your October bucket list. Let me know down in the comments what you’re most looking forward to this month!
